Open Call for Emerging Artists The Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK) is pleased to announce an Open Call for emerging Korean or Korean-heritage artists. We invite applications from talented artists who are shaping the future of contemporary art.   This Open Call seeks to discover emerging talents for the 2027 KCCUK Open Call, particularly those who have graduated from UK art schools. The exhibition will highlight experimental and creative practices that embody the vision of emerging artists in the UK. Application Deadline: Sunday 15 November 2026, Midnight (GMT) Theme • Open theme   Exhibition Format • Group exhibition   Exhibition Dates • February 2027 – April 2027 (exact dates to be confirmed) Support Provided • Exhibition space and invigilation • Exhibition opening event • Issuance of a certificate of participation • Promotional support via KCCUK channels (press release in Korean and English, social media, etc.) • Participant support fee of £250 each for selected artists ※ Support may be subject to change depending on KCCUK’s circumstances.   Eligibility Applicants must meet all of the following criteria: • Be of Korean nationality or Korean heritage • Have previously graduated from a UK-based art school (BA, MA, or PhD) or now work and reside in the UK • Be aged 18 or over • Have exhibited at least once (solo or group, in the UK or internationally) • Submit works produced within the past 5 years (works previously shown at KCCUK are not eligible) • All fine art genres are welcome; however, artists are responsible for all costs not covered by the KCCUK, including production, transportation, equipment, installation and deinstallation.   Application Deadline • Sunday 15 November 2026, Midnight (GMT)   Required Documents All documents must be submitted as a single PDF file (max. 7MB) including links for any videos. The Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK) is delighted to present The Unclassified, a group exhibition of four leading contemporary Korean and Korean-heritage artists, Meekyoung Shin, Ayoung Kim, siren eun young jung, and Gala Porras-Kim, exploring how museums shape the way we understand, remember, and interpret culture. The exhibition interrogates the limits of the systems and assumptions through which museums produce cultural knowledge, with works that challenge what can be collected, classified and contained. Unfolding across four key themes, The Unclassified explores the ways in which museums preserve, record, archive and make culture visible. In doing so, the exhibition offers alternative ways of thinking about culture and heritage, examining what museums can and choose to preserve, and what remains beyond their reach.   The exhibition is presented in collaboration with Lush and Somerset House Studios, with site partnerships from SOAS University of London, Delfina Foundation, the Glenfiddich Artist Residency, Soom Restaurant, Café Babka and Gaia Food & Drinks. The Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK), in collaboration with Ilmin Museum of Art, is delighted to present Korean Traditional Painting in Alter-age: Pure and Hybrid, an exhibition centring on literati painting as a key strand of Korean traditional art, juxtaposing works from the collections of Ilmin Museum of Art and the Ilmin Cultural Foundation with contemporary Korean painting.   Bringing works from collections of the Ilmin Museum of Art and the Ilmin Cultural Foundation into dialogue with four contemporary painters, this exhibition spans masterpieces from the late Joseon Dynasty through the twentieth century alongside works by younger artists.    Through this encounter, historical works and contemporary reinterpretations reflect one another, opening renewed questions around the meaning, continuity, and identity of Hangukhwa (Korean painting).   KCCUK will also host a programme of public events to accompany the exhibition, opening with a private view on Thursday 25 June 2026. Across the summer, events will include a talk on the continuity and transformation of Korean painting, a workshop for secondary school students, and a curator-led exhibition tour. The Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK), in collaboration with the City of Icheon, is delighted to present Icheon and Beyond: The Space Within Form, an exhibition exploring the philosophical and material foundations of Korean ceramics. Rooted in the rich heritage of Icheon—a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art—the exhibition is inspired by the profound idea that a vessel’s true essence lies in the empty space it holds. It examines how artists shape not only clay but also space, balance, and meaning. The exhibition features a remarkable group of 27 practitioners, bringing together 21 Master Artisans of Icheon alongside 6 Contemporary Artists. Together, they trace the sedimented time and layered mastery of the craft. The journey begins with works that serve as a physical record of silent endurance and technical perfection—a distilled presence of aesthetic values formed through the patient accumulation of years. This lineage of mastery flows into visionary contemporary responses, where the solid strata of tradition meet modern experimentation. By deconstructing forms and weaving new narratives into clay, the participating artists demonstrate that tradition is not a static relic, but a living practice continually renewed through the kiln. It is a transition from the wisdom of accumulated seasons to the pulse of contemporary innovation. Presented as part of London Craft Week 2026, Icheon and Beyond opens a significant dialogue between the craft traditions of Korea and the UK, both of which value material integrity and the sensitivity of the creative process. We invite visitors to look beyond the surface and reflect on the quiet strength and unseen layers of time required to transform earth and fire into lasting form.
