Jiyoung Han was born in Seoul and raised in the American Midwest, and now lives in San Francisco. Honey in the Wound is her debut novel. A lyrical and suspenseful work, Honey in the Wound follows a Korean family across decades of displacement during a turbulent period in Korean history. Blending history with elements of the supernatural, the novel explores themes of survival, memory, and the reclamation of power. Han will be joined by writer and academic SJ Kim, author of This Part Is Silent, for a conversation on the inspirations behind the novel, her creative process, and the historical and emotional contexts that shape her work. Jihyun Yun is a Korean American writer and the author of the poetry collection Some Are Always Hungry. Her debut novel has been shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. Blending Gothic horror, mystery, and Korean folklore, And the River Drags Her Down is a haunting exploration of sisterhood, grief, and revenge. Set against the backdrop of a small coastal town, the novel follows a young girl who uses ancestral magic to bring her sister back from the dead, with unforeseen consequences. Yun will be joined by Melinda Salisbury, bestselling author of Her Dark Wings, for a conversation on storytelling through genre fiction, the role of mythology in contemporary literature, and the inspirations behind her writing. Book Launch with Ela Lee The Korean Cultural Centre UK presents an evening celebrating the publication of Minbak by Ela Lee. Ela Lee was born in 1995 and is a British-Korean-Turkish writer. She studied Law at the University of Oxford and went on to practise as a City lawyer. In 2021, she began work on her debut novel, Jaded, which explores themes of consent, race and identity. Set between Incheon in 1985 and London in 2008, Minbak follows three generations of women whose lives unfold across continents and decades. Through themes of migration, family, memory and resilience, the novel reflects on exile, inheritance and the enduring presence of the past in the present. The evening will take place in the format of an informal launch gathering. Guests are invited to arrive from 6 PM, with time to gather and enjoy refreshments provided by the publisher.
